It’s that time of year again… Halloween! Can you think of anything more fun as a kid, heck as an adult, than having one day per year that you get to dress up as some alter ego/fantasy character? Well at least one day that is acceptable to do so, haha.

AND… go door-to-door and have people give you candy? Okay, this part is just for the kids. I think as an adult, you might find yourself being arrested.

Then, there are Halloween parties! Whether you are hosting one or attending one, you will need to have some Halloween treats.

Why not be the hit of the party with these cute decorated donuts? If donuts aren’t your thing, which would be outside of my realm of comprehension, but hey, whatever floats your boat, then you could certainly do the same thing on cupcakes, cookies, or rice-krispy treats.

This isn’t a donut recipe. It’s just for the frosting. I figured you would have plenty to do making four different frostings and decorating all these donuts!

Here, I’ve given you four different ideas. We have a green monster covered in googl-y eyes, a vampire that appears to have been up to no good, a cute little mummy and a chocolate-y donut covered in spider webs, the kind you want to eat…but then there’s that spider…

These are just four ideas, but the ideas are endless.

But the best part of this frosting is, that the colors are made from healthy food colors, you know the kind you find in nature? Our kids get enough artificial coloring from so many things they eat. Maybe we can help eliminate some of that food coloring by substituting it with things we find in other foods.

Green Monster Frosting:

The color that makes these donuts green is Matcha Powder. Okay, okay, I know Matcha might not be everyone’s first flavor choice. It has an earthy taste, but the powdered sugar diminishes this quite a bit and the flavor is very subtle. The color is fabulous!

Matcha, of course is Green Tea. Matcha is packed with antioxidants. In fact, it has 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea. It’s rich in fiber, chlorophyll and vitamins and, among other benefits, Provides vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc and magnesium.

Just tell your kids that, and they’ll be in! -Not.

You can trick them, like you do with other foods to get them to eat healthy things.

Purple Vampire Frosting:

The foods that make this frosting purple comes from blackberries and blueberries. Why both? I found that the blackberries after mashed, were too red. It needed the blue color to make it purple. If you go back to elementary school art class, you know that red and blue make purple!

Plus, extra nutritional benefits and flavor.

Both blackberries and blueberries are packed with vitamin C. They’re high in fiber, a great source of vitamin K. They’re high in manganese. I will let you look that up, because there are too many health benefits to list.

They also support brain and oral health, and are high in antioxidants.

I guess I need to eat more of these

Midnight Chocolate Frosting:

I have to say this combination was my very favorite. I’m a dark chocolate girl anyway. So this dark chocolate frosting with marshmallow on top, so good!

The reason for the extra dark chocolate is, one, for the color. We are trying to get that color as dark as we can, but also, when you add the powdered sugar, it dilutes and sweetens the chocolate. So, anything with less cocoa content will be too sweet and too lightly colored.

Do I need to go over the benefits of dark chocolate? Come on, we all know we eat it because it’s delicious, despite being told it’s higher in antioxidants. In fact the higher the cocoa content, the higher the antioxidants.

It’s also higher in fiber, and has iron, copper and magnesium.

It wouldn’t matter to me what the health benefits are. You don’t have to sell me on dark chocolate.

White Chocolate Mummy Frosting:

Finally, we have what I think is the cutest of them all. I love this cute little mummy. It was also so fun to make.

This is made the same way as the dark chocolate frosting, just using white chocolate.

Yes, even white chocolate has health benefits, actually, too many to list. Although one of them is, that it’s caffeine free.

And, though I’m not as big of a fan as I am with white chocolate, it really does add a great flavor to this frosting.

Kids will have fun piping on the mummy cloth.

Have fun decorating these!

Tag me on Instagram with your amazing skills. I’d love to see them.
